History

For over two thousand years, European colonial scholarship has told the story of Palestine through a lens of invasion, extermination, and replacement. This narrative served empire. It justified colonization. It committed genocide against the indigenous peoples and attempted to erase them from their own history. But the evidence tells a radically different story, one grounded in archaeology, linguistics, genetics, and the living memory of an indigenous population that never left. The people who became "Israelites" and "Judahites" were not outsiders who invaded and destroyed. They were the original inhabitants of this land, Indigenous Canaanites whose culture evolved across millennia without interruption. Their descendants are the Palestinian people.

In the early 20th century, under British military occupation of Palestine, colonial administrators began broadly classifying Palestinians as "Arabs," while deliberately contrasting them with "Jews." This imposed identity linked Palestine to Arab identity and cast incoming European settlers as Jews, collapsing the tribal and Indigenous lineages into a single colonial construct. The contrast was later reinforced by British protectorate states in the Persian Gulf, and today it persists through Gulf Cooperation Council regimes, Western diplomatic language, and the State of Israel's Zionist narrative. Persian Gulf states recycle the Ishmaelite "Arab" narrative and present Palestinians as junior members of a single Arab nation, Western governments echo the same framing, and the State of Israel uses it to label Indigenous Bedouins in the Naqab, Jordan Valley, and "West Bank" as "nomadic Arabs," suggesting their "true" homeland is in the Arabian Peninsula. From its colonial origins to its modern recycling, this misclassification continues to erase indigenous identity and deny Palestinians recognition as an Indigenous people of the very land they've inhibited for over 5,000 years.

The full study covers Palestine's history, which has often been unclear over the past 150 years, starting from its Canaanite origins through various periods, including the Jewish (Israelite), Islamic (Ayyubid, Mamluk, and Ottoman), and Christian (Franks/al-Ifranj) invasions and conquests, as well as the Sea Peoples, Greeks, Romans, Persians, and up to the modern British-Israeli era.

The Hasanat Abu Mu’ailiq tribe, known on the Abimelech Platform, identifies itself as a Canaanite Bedouin tribe whose members historically inhabited a corridor stretching from Beersheba (Bi’r as‑Sabaʿ) to Gaza. According to tribal oral history and Arab historians and encyclopedias, our ancestry in Palestine traces back to at least four millennia to King Abimelech of Gerar. The tribe elders recount our ancestors formed a covenant of coexistence with the Prophet Abraham at Bi’r as‑Saba, later renewed with the Prophet Moses, and united Canaanite Palestinians and early Jewish tribes that immigrated to Canaan. Our historic seat is Khirbet Umm Jarrar and Khirbet Abu Mua'liq, located west of Beersheba and east of Gaza, and we emphasize that our identity predates Arab and Jewish nationalism.
